A sick weekend...

Had a depressing weekend...I'm sick! My plan to go shopping at Jusco, Ipoh is ruined. Don't know what I ate wrong, but since yesterday, I experienced indigestion, vomiting, nausea and diarrhea...what is worse, I cannot eat at all...don't have the appetite. Every time I eat, I vomit back :( And I don't have the energy, just lying on bed and sleep. Until at one time yesterday evening, I felt like I had a hypoglycaemic attack....very dizzy, felt sweaty, felt like fainting....so I quickly ate two biscuits and drank ORS. Very stubborn of me, don't want to seek medical attention..haha....I just treat myself with Metoclopramide, MMT and Panadol....

Fortunately, felt better today...I can eat a little bit...just rice porridge la...still cannot tolerate to eat solid food. However, I still have diarrhea....watery diarrhea..luckily the vomiting stop already...

Thank you to my husband, who take care of our daughter, cleaning the dishes, cleaning the house, and cook porridge for me...a really wonderful husband I have... :) hopefully my sickness will be better...as tomorrow I'm working!

All of us, 8 anaesth MO are jobless today...hihi. Just eating, chit chatting, and even sleeping..then eat again :) no,no this is not the usual scene in our operation theatre (OT). For the past couple of days, have had many laparotomies...

Don't know if I go to outpatient department later I can still get this kind of luxury also or not. But I do know for sure, I'm gonna miss my colleagues and bosses very very much...not forgetting the OT and ICU staffs as well : )

Baker King, Kim Tak Goo

I love Korean dramas..hehe. I've just finished watching 30 episodes of Baker King, Kim Tak Goo. I know, this story was aired long time ago, and I just watched it now....you know, I am a busy woman..hihi.

Little introduction first :
KBS broadcasted the Baker King from June 2010 to September 2010 in South Korea and it was extremely popular there, receiving a record viewer rating of 50.8%. The series also received presidential honors in the 2010 Republic of Korea Content Award ceremony for its contribution in the overseas popularity of Korean pop culture. The English version was renamed Bread, Love and Dreams and was broadcast on KBS World.

Tak Gu and Syin Yu Khyung on a date in the Baker King
It tells the story of how determined a young baker over comes many trials towards achieving his goal of becoming the best baker in Korea. This story takes place in 1970's to 1990's, starting after his conception and finishing when he reaches his mid 20's.

Tak Gu ended up with Mi Sun (really cute couple)
Ma Jun weds Syin Yu Khyung (Eugene)

Synopsis
Kim Tak Goo is the eldest son of Goo Il Jong, the chairman of Geosung Foods Enterprise ( a legend in baking industry), and Kim Mi Sun, his mistress. Although he is an extremely talented baker and is destined to succeed his father as president, Goo Il Jong's family plotted to rob him of his inheritance because he is the son of Il Jong's mistress. Tak Goo's determination to become number one in baking industry drives him to build his career from scratch despite many hard trials he faces.

It is an emotional roller coaster ride of a series that tells a story of love, anger, revenge, hope and dreams in the best way possible. It is definitely different from your typical soap opera. It is full of twists and turns yet maintains its interesting story. What I love about the show is that it is full of moral values that would inspire viewers in many ways. Never quit on your dreams and achieve it the right way. The Baker King truly moves my heart and I have been eagerly watching each coming episodes to see what happens next : )

Safe Surgery Saves Lives

Have you heard about this? Those who worked in the operation theater should know. My boss asked us to record a video showing how 'time out' during an operation works. 'Safe surgery saves lives' is implemented so that both team (surgery part and anaesthesia part) communicate effectively so that the operation went on smoothly and safely, making sure that the correct procedure is being done on the correct patient and on the correct site. Both the surgeon and anaesthesia team have to be co-operative with each other and always communicate throughout the surgery, for example, if the patient is bleeding or the vital signs not stable, and etc...

Let's see the video recorded by amateur camerawoman : )

As a token of appreciation for this video which is presented by my specialist at a conference, we get this cute badge...

An Evening at Marina Island....

Yesterday evening, me and hubby took Aliya for a stroll at Marina Island, Lumut. This is a new tourist attraction you can find in Lumut. It has been quite a long time since we last went there and the jetty complex has new shops opened, including Secret Recipe shop. There were quite a number of families with young kids came here to enjoy the scenery like us.  It's such a calm feeling to see the sea with its beautiful green surroundings...

Aliya not in the mood for pictures..hehe

View of the sun set...

Sneezing...sneezing! I need tissues!

Aaaaa chooo! Argh....I think I've got my allergic rhinitis back...It's been bothering me for many times this week. Around 4-5 a.m in the morning, it'll wakes me up from my deep sleep and I'll be continuously sneezing and have blocked nose...making me awake till I take antihistamine medication.

I was diagnosed with allergic rhinitis by my ENT lecturer when I was a student in HUKM. Since then, I have to take Aerius (Desloratadine) 5 mg with nasal spray every morning so that my symptoms are controlled. After few years on treatment, I am free with the symptoms and I stopped taking them few years back (I thought it's gone already). But now I guess my old disease is back  : (  I'll get rhinitis when exposed with dust and cold. So, usually I'll get it every  morning and by noon it'll resolved. I also have to wear a face mask to avoid sniffing dust when I clean up the house...quite a burden, huh?

There's always been an allergy trait in my family..my father has this rhinitis also. My younger brother has asthma during his childhood years. Luckily, I don't have asthma YET, but I have allergic rhinitis and eczema...my eczema quite bad...my skin especially the fingers are dry and itchy if I eat too much seafood.

Allergic rhinitis is an inflammation of the nasal airways. It occurs when the immune system overreacts upon exposure to allergens, such as animal dander, dust mites, debris or flower pollen. Allergies are common and it often passed down through families. Other disorders that is associated with allergies include eczema and asthma.

Symptoms that occur include :
  • Itchy nose, eyes, throat, skin, mouth or any areas in contact with allergens
  • Runny nose
  • Sneezing and congestion
  • Tearing eyes
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Cough

Treatment

The best treatment is to avoid what causes your allergic symptoms in the first place. It may be impossible to avoid all the triggers, but you can often take steps to reduce the exposure.

There are many different medications to treat allergic rhinitis according to the severity of your symptoms, your age, and whether you ave other medical conditions such as asthma.

For mild allergic rhinitis, a nasal wash is helpful in removing mucus from the nose. You can purchase a saline solution at pharmacy or make one at home using a cup of warm water, half a teaspoon of salt and pinch of baking soda.

Medications available for treating moderate and severe allergic rhinitis are antihistamines, nasal corticosteroids and decongestants. For me, I take antihistamines and nasal corticosteroids :

Migraine, oh migraine!

Pity my husband...going back home today with a very bad migraine. Lately, he has been having it quite frequently. He said, maybe he's stressed in work....there's so much work with all the audits that give you headache. Usually, we buy outside food for dinner and eat at home coz I'm too tired to cook if on working days...malas jugak nak masak sebenarnya..hehe. For tonight, I just made spaghetti...simple and fast :)

I'm sure many of you also experienced migraine. According to World Health Organization (WHO), migraine ranks among the world's top 20 most disabling chronic conditions. So, what really triggers migraine?

Stress                                               80%
Hormone fluctuations                 65%
Sleep disturbances                  50%
Perfumes or smells               44%
Neck pain                        39%
Lights                              38%
Smoke                           36%
Sleeping late                 32%
Heat                            30%
Food                         27%
Exercise                  22%
Sex              5%

Identify your causes of migraine and find a solution to it. What my hubby usually do, he take panadol and sleep in a dim room : )

RED eye!

This morning, I woke up with a red eye..oh,no! Do I have conjunctivitis? I've been a contact lens user for years, but this is the first time I got it. I'm just afraid if it is conjunctivitis, then it is infectious and I must be careful not to transmit it to my daughter and husband. I went to work as usual, then ask my boss to be excused and see the eye doctor (opthalmologist) at my workplace.
Dr. Tan examined my eyes with her eye gadget (not sure what it's called :P )...my cornea is ok...no ulcer or laceration. Then she put an eye stain (orange fluorescence in colour) on my right eye and examined with the microscope again. I'm relieved when she told me there's nothing to worry about...it's not conjunctivitis, probably just because my eyes are dry due to contact lens wearing.

Why is my eye red?

1. Conjunctivitis
Is an inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva, a protective layer that coats the front part of the eye. This can be caused by viruses, bacterias, allergies or toxic substances.

2. Blepharitis
An inflammation of the follicles along the eyelid. May be caused by poor eyelid hygiene, lice on the eyelashes, allergic reactions or bacterial infections.

3. Dry eyes
4. Frequent use of eye drops
Surprisingly, frequent use of eye drops that we use when our eyes are red can cause a red eye too. These whitening eye drops cause our blood vessels in the eye to dilate, thus the eye appear more bloodshot.

5. Eye injury
Any injury or damage to the eye due to trauma

6. Contact lens wear
If you wear contact lenses for long hours, the eyes can become red like me. In some people, simply having contact lens in the eye can cause redness.

7. Corneal ulcer or infection

8. Uveitis
Causes redness, pain, blurry vision, light sensitivity and floater. It must be treated quickly because it can cause bad complications.

9. Subconjunctival haemorrhage
Caused by a bursted blood vessel due to straining, coughing, trauma, high blood pressure or certain blood disordes.
10. Acute angle closure glaucoma
A serious medical emergency and must be treated immediately. It causes painful red eye which usually occurs in one eye.

Home Care

How to care for your red eye at home? Here are some tips :
  •  Avoid touching the infected eye and then rubbing the other eye...it can easily spread to the other eye!
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Avoid eye makeup or wear contact lens until the infection clears up. You should also throw away items like these that you have used on the infected eye
  • Apply cold or warm compressers on the eye

When to go to hospital?
  • After a penetrating injury to the eye
  • You have headache along with blurred vision
  • Your eyes are red longer than 1-2 days
  • You have eye pain or vision changes
  • You have nausea and vomiting
  • You are seeing halos around lights
  • You have yellow or greenish discharges from the eye
  • Your eyes are very sensitive to light

For my eye problem, I was given chloramphenicol ointment and artificial tears..
What I mentioned above is just a rough guideline about red eye. For more detailed info, you should see an opthalmologist. Eyes are very precious as they give us sight to see this beautiful world. So, don't take your eye problem lightly!

Kenaikan Gaji Tahunan SBPA

Budget 2012 was announced few days ago..so, are you guys happy? For me, as professionals, I'll get increment in oncall claim and my yearly salary...the best is of course the 1 and half month salary bonus! Well, I came across the table above that was posted on Facebook..looks like Jusa A,B,C will get the highest increment...I thought it is gonna be the other way around..

'The Voice' finale...

Last night, my fave reality show, The Voice has come to the finale. The four finalists, Javier Colon, Dia Frampton, Beverly McClellan and Vicci Martinez took the stage one final time to sing special duets with Stevie Nicks, Miranda Lambert, One Republic's Ryan Tedder and Train's Pat Monahan respectively. They were also given an original song each.

All of the finalists did a great job that night...my favourite is of course, the sweet, soft and shy Dia Frampton :) I think she has a great voice and she sang all the songs given to her brilliantly throughout the whole season.
Here's Dia Frampton singing a duet with Miranda Lambert, 'The House That Built' on the season finale...

And the winner is.... Javier Colon! Yeah, my Dia came in second place...Javier narrowly beat Dia by only 2 percent of the vote! All the four finalists are good singers. I can't wait for the second season of The Voice : )
You can watch the whole finale last night at You Tube

Crystal ball..oh, crystal ball!

Which crystal ball are u thinking about? Is it the fortune telling crystal ball? Nope, I'm talking about "Facial Crystal Ball Treatment" :) Have you tried it? This is the first time I heard it...thanks to my colleague, Melissa and Moo that introduced this special facial to me. I've always want to go for regular facial but time and my responsibilities has not permitted me to do that...besides, I'm still looking for the beauty centre that I  really like here in Seri Manjung. We, women like to be pampered with beauty treatments, am I not correct? :)

The last facial I ever had was so very long time ago...I think almost a year ago...hehe. Lots of blackheads and whiteheads already on my face! So, I decided to try the facial crystal ball at Liz de Beauty, Manjung that is recommended by my colleagues. I got special price,RM88 for first trial customer..Oh, by the way, the usual price is RM188, so I saved a lot!..and is it good? Ohh, yess indeed! I really love the coldness and soothing feeling you get on your face when the crystal balls were rolled on your face...it is so calming....the beautician said it act to brighten your complexion and give moisture to your face....The rest of the facial treatment I got including head point massage, shoulder and upper back massage were superb! Their treatment reminded me of this one beauty center that I love to go to when I lived in KL last time...Dr. Rehfeld Aesthetic Center. Their massage is almost similar and I love it...makes my aching body felt relaxed and de-stressed.

I love it so much that I straight away sign up for a package of 10 times facial : ) If take the package, it's cheaper...RM 78 per facial session. So there, I've found my favourite beauty centre in Manjung. Those of you in Manjung should give this a try...the shop is next to the petrol station at Mc Donalds....easy to find it!

Semifinalist Blogger MasterChef Malaysia

Are you guys surprise to see the header? Hehe. Well,it's not me, but my husband has been chosen as 1 of 20 semifinalists to compete in the event...yes,dear! MY HUSBAND! Whom rarely cook at home or anywere else :) It all started when he cooked 'ayam masak merah' during Hari Raya and he posted it on his blog, Untuk Semua
It sure looks yummy, rite? Taste good too : )

Since we were in KL and the venue of the contest was at Desa Sri Hartamas, he decided to take the challenge. I didn't see him preparing himself by cooking before the big day but he seemed confident with himself..

On 1st October 2011, we went to the competition's venue at The Cooking House. When we entered, other semifinalists were already there...quite a number of them are male. Nowadays, men knows how to cook, sometimes even better than women : )

And the pressure begin...the first test is The Invention Test...contestants are asked to cook chicken as the main ingredient. That time I thought maybe my hubby gonna cook 'ayam masak merah'....he did, but in a modified way since there's not enough dry chillies..hehe. Let's see his action in the kitchen...

Very focused
Still a smiling face

Ta daa...the final result...I think a bit lack in decoration, honey(jgn marah!)

For the second test, which is the Skills Test, they have to do poach egg...This is my husband's....almost perfect!Hehe.

Although he didn't make it to the final 5, he still got many goodies from the sponsors. Congrats, honey! Aliya and I are very proud of you! If I am the one entering the competition, I'm  not sure I can do as calmly as he did...This will be a memorable event in our family :) So,honey..after this bolehla selalu masak kat rumah ye :P
