My birth story

3 months of my maternity leave has passed. Now only I'm writing back in my blog..hehe. Kesian blog daku ni dah berabuk ;p Alhamdulillah..my 2nd princess was born on 16th January 2013 at 8.17 pm at Hospital Putrajaya (full paying patient), normal delivery by Dr.Hamidah.

This time my labour journey started with leaking liquour on 15th January 2013 at 6.30 am. I was getting Aliya's stuff ready for kindergarten at that time when I felt some water dribbling down my legs...I was like, Oopss! Did my water breaks? Quickly, I checked in the bathroom and true enough, I saw clear liquour and the more I walk, the more it comes out...quite unpleasant, as you cannot control it..huhu. Luckily my husband was still at home, he called his boss to take emergency leave that day.

I felt no contraction yet. After Aliya is ready, my husband send her off and he bought breakfast...I am hungry and I have to eat before going to the hospital! Hehe. I know I will definitely be warded as I had Prelabour Rupture of Membrane (in layman terms...the waterbag broke). I checked all the already packed bags for delivery needs and after we ate breakfast, we headed to the hospital at around 8.30 am.

At the labour room, while CTG was done..one young house officer came to clerk me. Then the more senior female HO came and asked him to do examination...ooo I don't want to be checked by male, so I kindly told her that. She don't mind..maybe coz she knows I'm a doctor? No la, I think she really don't mind :) I hate it when vaginal examination had to be done..huhu all mothers must know what I mean. Yeah, the examination confirms I had PROM...so have to be admitted. While I lie on the bed waiting for my CTG to be done, I heard a doctor told the patient beside me that she has to go to Hospital Serdang or HKL because the bed is full at Hosp. Putrajaya. She must be in early labour, or else they have to admit her...pity her. For your information, this is not an unusual scenario at Hospital Putrajaya. They don't have many beds, so if it's not an emergency, you have to go to other hospital. But if you are under FPP, there will always be a bed reserved for you.

So, after all is settled for my admission, I was wheeled to the ward. When my husband and I reached the ward...we were like...wow, this is really nice..better than in some private hospital :)

Let's go inside my room.....

Later, I was informed that Dr. Hamidah, who I chose to be my obstetrician was on leave that day and a male specialist will substitute her. I was sad, I was really hoping for a female doctor :( The specialist Dr. Hazim came for his ward consultation, explaining his plan of management if my baby refuse to come out in the next 24 hours. He turned out to be a nice and friendly doctor.

Hours passed but I still felt no contraction. If my baby is still not delivered, then I'll have to be induced next morning. I just prayed I won't need an induction of labour as I heard prostin induction is painful...huhuhu. My contractions were very little, it comes and goes....and I'm just resting in the ward, watching TV, praying, have a walk around the hospital....quite boring.hehe.

The next day, after CTG was done, prostin was inserted. I felt some contractions few hours later but it was still mild and infrequent. Later around 2.30 pm, the specialist came to review me. My contractions that time was mild but more frequent (2-3:10). Os 3 cm, membrane absent. My CTG was not so great, got early decelaration...I was sent to labour room for augmentation and delivery. Epidural was inserted. After the bolus dose, I felt itchiness from my waist downwards...there was no rash, just very itchy...I've never felt like this with epidural during my first delivery. The anaesthetist explained it was due to nerve root irritation and will resolve later. Other than that, my epidural works in reducing the labour pain. Around 5 pm, Dr. Hazim came and said Dr. Hamidah will take over frm there. She's actually on-call that day and just came back frm her kampung. Well, it looks like my baby wants to wait for her after all :)

True enough, few minutes later Dr. Hamidah came and alhamdulillah, my os progressed to 6 cm. Around 8 pm, my os was full and it's time to push the baby out. My husband, who just came back frm Maghrib prayer, was asked to witness the birth of our second baby...alhamdulillah, Aina Maisarah was born at 8.17 pm...I can't described the feeling when my baby was put on my stomach when Dr. Hamidah cut the cord...so happy and touched at the same time :)

My princess @ day 1 of life
The next day I was discharged from the hospital with my new baby. The total hospital bill? RM19++.....quite cheap I think as I took epidural plus the medication for induction. Overall, the service was good, staff nurse and house officers were nice to me. Dr. Hamidah is gentle, calm and did her work professionally. So, if any of you plan to deliver your baby with service like in a private hospital but at a lower price, I would suggest you to try this FPP scheme.

Thank you very much to my husband who was with me all the time during the labour process and helped me during the confinement. You are the best and I'm very thankful to get a husband like you. Not forgetting to my loving family..mom, dad and of course my bro for taking care of me and my daughters...your sacrifice and help is truly appreciated and can only be repaid by Him.
